I just finished watching Martha Marcy May Marlene and I am totally buggin’. Cults are one of the many things that freak me out, and this movie is about a girl who escapes a Manson-Family-like cult, and goes to stay with her sister. The movie flips back and forth between the present and the past two years that Martha aka Marcy May aka Marlene spent living with the cult. By the end I was so disoriented that I, like Martha, wasn’t sure if the cult was really after her or not. In that way the movie was totally effective, as was the acting. Particularly Elizabeth Olsens performance was totally genuin.
