Never in my life have I had so many inappropriate sex-driven thoughts and urges.
He’s just so fine… Never has there been a man with the right levels of swarthiness, nerdiness, charm, musical ability, and eyebrow proportion before Darren Criss. I truly don’t believe my loins have ever longed for someone more.
Okay…I think I’m through debasing myself.

So I realized mid-way through making this scarf that when I wear it some people might expect me to sing acapella versions of top 40 hits a la The Warblers. I don’t do hair gel and I only sing Katy Perry shamefully in the private comfort of my car.

Gleezy Projeezy

So I never watched The Glee Project, but I DVRed some episodes today. It kinda enfuriates me because I whole heartedly despise Samuel. I think he’s one dimensional. I also think it was obscene the way he pandered to Ryan Murphy when he mentioned creating a conservative character. I will say the show has given me an appreciation for Damian McGinty. He’s just cool; he’s up for anything, he’s not overly confident, yet not achingly insecure. I dig him and I love that he’s from Derry. I’m a fan of anyone from Derry, Northern Ireland *cough* Nadine Coyle *cough*. I was a big fan of Hannah’s and I don’t fully understand how she went home and Samuel stayed to ultimately win with Damian. It makes me a little ill it really does.

I feel like I have to bitch about Glee right now…

When season two ended last year I was so disappointed. The finale was epitome of everything Glee does wrong: pandering, mash-ups, song selection, cameos, etc. All Summer long not once did I feel a pang of excitement about the approaching new season. That is until I found out the song selection for the first episode. Excluding “It’s Not Unusual” I was extremely excited about the prospects of the Glee cast doing “Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead,” “We’ve Got The Beat,” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat.” Even the idea of a mash up of “Anything Goes” and “Anything You Can Do” excited me, which is weird because I typically hate mash ups. I was glad to finally be excited for Glee, but that didn’t last long.

I watch a lot of TV, so I know a thing or two about good shows. Something that infuriates me is when a good show disregards plot and panders to the audience *cough* The OC *cough*. There isn’t a show on the air guiltier of pandering than Glee.

Consider exhibit A: Darren Criss has become a wildly popular presence of Glee. Personally, I really like him. His smooth voice, and thick Eurasion eyebrows make me swoon. I’m assuming that the producers of Glee took notice of the demand for Darren and decided to make his character Blaine transfer to McKinley High School. Thus making it easier to give him screen time. The problem is it makes no sense, and does nothing for plot. The possible angst that could be harnessed from Blaine being Kurts boyfriend and opponent is totally wasted.

Next consider exhibit B: remember when Kurt and Mercedes were best-friends? Apparently that’s over all of a sudden. Now Kurt and Rachel are best-friends, and it’s unbearable! When Kurt and Mercedes were friends they grounded each other, because no-one can check you like a sarcastic gay man, or a sassy black woman. Now that Kurt and Rachel are best friends their characters are way too campy and over-the-top. Where is the balance? Furthermore Mercedes is one of my favorite characters, yet she is being disregarded again and again. It’s just wasteful.

And now exhibit C: The rivalry between Will Schuester and Sue Sylvester used to deliver like dominoes. Now it’s just redundant. Neither of those characters have developed. As soon as the show makes some progress with their arcs it falls right back in to the oppressive superfluous cycle. Sue is still a cranky old bitch, and Will is still a horny naive flake.

Though there are plenty of reasons to stop watching Glee I still have hope. Next week the show is allegedly beginning an arc revolving around the school’s production of West Side Story, a personal favorite. Blaine is singing “Something’s Coming,” which is perfect song selection and casting. Rachel and her biological mother Shelby played by Idina Menzel will be singing “Somewhere.” I’ve heard it, and it is amazing. The only mistake I see is having Kurt sing “I’m The Greatest Star” from Funny Girl. The song is one of my favorites, and I’m a bit disappointed that Rachel isn’t singing it. One thing Glee typically get’s right it having Lea Michele sing Barbra Streisand songs. It feels like a misstep. I suppose we’ll see. As for next weeks plot, I hope the show get’s their house in order. Over the Summer they hired a bunch of new writers. Hopefully they can fix this repetitive mess that was once a novel and exciting show.

It pains me to throw shade at Chris, but this would have be so much better if Lea had done it. Furthermore I thought it was an unspoken rule that Lea gets all of the Barbra songs. Terrible! To make up for this fuckery, I demand that Lea sing On A Clear Day You Can See Forever, People, The Way We Were, or Second Hand Rose.

After that shitty season finale I was not excited for the Glee season 3 premier… until now.

Bitches are doing a mash up of Anything Goes (from Anything Goes, duh!) and Anything You Can Do (from Annie Get Your Gun, dyyyyying!).

They are also doing You Can’t Stop the Beat from Hairspray. The heavy hand on Broadway songs is making me happy.

I have mixed feelings about this. I dislike Katie Holmes IRL, but I usually like her as an actress. I’m so conflicted.

I’ve had To Sir With Love stuck in my head all day long. It wouldn’t be so bad, but now the song is associated with the whole Glee cast doing the ugly cry and it makes me sad sad sad.

Glee The Music: Journey To Regionals

Popular and Glee Are the Same Show

Glee and Popular TV SHows

Last year when Glee was just beginning to be promoted I was automatically down. There were any reasons for instant devotion. First of all I love Broadway stars including Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison. I think Broadway actors are the hardest working people in the entertainment industry, and I think they are the most talented. Second I love Jane Lynch. Yes, way before most of you knew her as Sue Sylvester she was one of my favorite people in the world. Jane Lynch has been in everything ever made. Her IMDB page is mind blowing! Third, I love pop music and I love TV. Anything that successfully combines those two medium while having a sense of humor is A+ material to me.

Another reason I knew I was going to like Glee was that I knew Ryan Murphy was the brain behind it. Most people know Ryan Murphy from Nip/Tuck, but I specifically knew him from Popular. Not a lot of people know what Popular is, and that might explain why it only lasted two season. Regardless of the fact that Popular wasn’t popular, it was an insanely hilarious camp driven masterpiece that was way ahead of its time. Ryan Murphy co-created Popular is 2000, wrote many of the show’s episodes, and was a huge influence on the show’s campy and quirky humor. The plot of the show focused two girls who are polar opposites in the high school social scene. Sam is a unpopular brunette writer. Brooke is a popular blond cheerleader. The girls and their rival social cliques are forced to socialize when Sam and Brooke’s parents meet and fall in love.

At first glance Popular and Glee seem to only share the high school culture factor, but if you take a closer look, you’ll realize that Ryan Murphy is reliving his Popular days with Glee.
